AKA Sarah Jorissen Lanen DATE 30 NOV 2013 prob. No record of birth or baptism for her or her brother, Gerrit, has been found but they were probably born in Flatlands, where the Dutch Church Baptisms are missing from 1710 to 1721, inclusive. She was probably named for her maternal grandmother, Sarah Luyster, and one of her own daughters named Sarah b. May 21, 1758, married Hendrick Smock. In a Smock Bible record, after the date of death of Sarah Smock, Mar 25, 1828, the following notation appears: "Sarah Lane, daughter of Aaron Lane and Sarah Cowenhoven, m. Nov 8, 1780, her cousin Hendrick Smock who was a Captain in the Revolutionary War and also a member of New Jersey Provincial Assembly." As we know from other published records that Colonel John Smock mar. Elizabeth Cowenhoven, a daughter of Joris and Altje, then Sarah must have been her sister (NJMis:2:316). On May 17, 1743, she mar. in Middletown, New Jersey, Aaron Lane b. there abt 1719; d. abt 1805, a son of Matthias and Ann (Schenck) Lane. In 1746, this family moved to Readington, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, where most of their children were born.
